My thanks to the Officers & Committee of the Tibetan Mastiff Club of Great Britain for their hospitality & inviting me to judge at their Breed Club open Show. Extra thanks to my two most able stewards who organised the ring with such efficiency.
I have always taken an interest in the Tibetan Mastiff & followed their development closely. However, there are a few coments that will not please everyone which I have to make. The hind movement of many exhibits was poor to say the least. This problem is not just amongst the Novice exhibitors, I saw it across the whole breed. I could hear the hock joints clicking on some exhibits. If I was asked to comment on what the problem is caused by, in my opinion the stifles are too straight & the hocks too long. This problem really does need to be addressed by the breeders. Secondly, I was very disappointed in the loss of rich tan markings on several dogs. This is a unique breed, please protect & improve it.
VETERAN DOG (4) 1st Briggs' Heronsview Lady Leah of Sobarna. 8 years, in good order throughout, would like better hindquarter, a little lazy in movement. 2nd Cawthorne's Khukli Soma-Lo at Bheara. 9 years, not in such good order as winner, lacked in front.
JUNIOR DOG (6) 1st Bux-Jones' Darchen Jetsan. 16 months, a promising youngster, just needs to mature & develop. Moving a little close behind otherwise sound. Handled by a promising young handler. 2nd Hughes' Darchen Jampo . 16 months, litter brother to winner. Another nice youngster, a little more mature in head than winner. These two, I am sure, will change places on occasions. Would prefer stronger colour. 3rd Greens' Chymera Turbo.
NOVICE DOG (3) 1st Bux- Jones' Darchen Jetsan. 2nd Barbours' Woolinoze Son of my Father. 16 months, very sound dog. Eye slightly rounded, would prefer more overall size for a male. 3rd Greens' Chymera Tubo.
POST GRADUATE DOG (10) 1st Stratfords' heronsview Chevrolet Lad of Wendanade. 2 years 4 months, impressive male of good type, sound on the move. To be critical, could do with just a little less weight. I noticed a slight swelling on his back left hock but this did not affect his movement in this class. I was pleased to award him Reserve Best in Show & Best Opposite Sex. 2nd Khans' Chortens Bhalu khan Bahadur. 31/2 years , good outline, would like to see tighter eye. lacked front movement, really does need less weight. 3rd Thomas' Heronsview Dylan of Jaxfryn.
LIMIT DOG (8) 1st Cawthornes' Bheara Yontan. 4 years, impressive male, good outline & breed type. Sound when he could be persuaded to move, lost out on Best Dog because of this. 2nd Hughes' Carramia Mystical Milo . Outline ok, would prefer better hindquarter. 3rd Greens' Chymera Turbo.
OPEN DOG (4) 1st Bowers' Bheara Gya Ma Khen.5years ,in good coat & condition, movement ok,good outline. Would like darker tan markings. 2nd Gardiners' Heronsview Cool hand Luke. 6 years, of exceleent type. Good front movement, unfortunately showed slight lameness in hind leg. 3rd Parrys' Sobarna Charlock at Fallenoak.
JUNIOR BITCH (6) 1st Leaks' Darchen Basundara. 16 months, nice outline, very sound, needs to mature & grow a little more coat. Would prefer darker tan markings. 2nd Worleys' Bheara Galme at Montasamara. 15 months, not quite as sound as winner although more mature in coat & body. 3rd Gardiners' Heronsview Let Me Try Again.
